2015 was a turning point in Steelhouse history โ€“ the moment the festival shifted from beloved underdog to serious player on the UK rock scene. The lineup? Legendary. The crowd? Massive. The weather? A rare Welsh gift โ€“ mostly dry!

This was the year people started saying โ€œSteelhouse is something special.โ€ Not just for the music, but for the vibe: friendly, passionate, loud, and proudly Cymraeg. Bands old and new shared the stage, and by the end of the weekend, every set felt like part of a much bigger story.

Letโ€™s relive the madness โ€“ one band at a time.

๐ŸŽธ FRIDAY โ€“ A Taste of Things to Come

Florence Black ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Still early in their rise, Florence Black took the Friday crowd by the scruff and said: โ€œPay attention.โ€ The Merthyr trio were hungry, sharp, and already showing the explosive potential theyโ€™d become known for.

Down and Fiesta packed a punch, and even in these earlier days, Tristan Thomasโ€™s voice carried serious fire. Their chemistry was electric โ€“ raw, stripped-back, and powerful. Even through a shorter set, it was clear: Florence Black were destined for the mountainโ€™s top slots.

Buffalo Summer โ˜€๏ธ

With their sun-baked Southern rock stylings, Buffalo Summer brought a vibe of bluesy swagger and feel-good riffage that helped set the tone for the weekend.

Money, Down to the River, and Make You Mine had the crowd swaying and shouting along, and the bandโ€™s connection with the Welsh faithful gave the performance an added emotional punch. Loose, soulful, and smooth as melted butter โ€“ a proper crowd-pleaser.

๐Ÿค˜ SATURDAY โ€“ Rock, Revelry, and a Rising Storm

Skam โšก

With full-tilt energy and no-nonsense British grit, Skam kicked off Saturday like a bottle rocket. From Leicester with love (and distortion pedals), they blasted through Peacemaker and No Lies like they had something to prove.

Their power trio setup meant everything had to hit hard โ€“ and it did. Crisp solos, thunderous rhythm, and a frontman who looked like he could bite through strings. A fierce, punchy start to a loaded day.

Hand of Dimes โœ‹

Led by the iconic Nev MacDonald, Hand of Dimes offered a beautiful shift in tone โ€“ mellow, bluesy, emotional, and rich with soul. They felt like a band playing for the mountain, not just on it.

Jacobโ€™s Ladder was a standout moment โ€“ the crowd hanging onto every note of Nevโ€™s golden voice. This was music with warmth and wisdom, and it gave the day a moment of reflection before the riff assault resumed.

Toseland ๐Ÿ๏ธ

Fronted by ex-Superbike champion James Toseland, this band was no novelty act โ€“ they brought a racing engine of melodic rock that revved up the crowd big time.

Renegade and Crash Landing were high-octane anthems, delivered with serious polish. Jamesโ€™s piano work added a unique flavour, and his vocals held their own. The bandโ€™s energy was relentless โ€“ sleek, turbocharged, and undeniably fun.

FM ๐ŸŽผ

Smooth, classy, and executed with flawless finesse โ€“ FM brought the AOR gold. Steve Overlandโ€™s vocals were immaculate, soaring over tracks like That Girl and Tough It Out like it was 1989 all over again.

Their set offered a masterclass in melodic control โ€“ a perfect mid-evening breather packed with lush harmonies, slick solos, and soaring choruses. You could tell the crowd knew the words โ€“ and FM delivered them like elder statesmen of sound. Pure elegance in leather jackets.

Tyketto (Headliner) ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ’Ž

Oh yes. The return of the kings. When Tyketto hit the stage on Saturday night, there was electricity in the air. Danny Vaughn was in incredible form โ€“ his voice powerful, emotional, and pitch-perfect from start to finish.

The crowd sang every word of Forever Young like a gospel choir on fire, and Wings nearly took the roof off the mountain (if there was one). There was a sense of shared joy in this set โ€“ band and audience connected through years of loyalty, love, and lighters-in-the-air moments.

It wasnโ€™t just a headliner set โ€“ it was a Steelhouse classic. A defining moment for the festival.

๐ŸŽถ SUNDAY โ€“ Legends, Lightning, and Loud Memories

No Hot Ashes ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Reformed and revitalised, Belfastโ€™s No Hot Ashes brought a heartfelt and catchy mix of AOR and hard rock that surprised many. Their energy was infectious, their melodies sharp, and their set full of warmth and character.

This was a band playing like theyโ€™d been waiting decades for this moment โ€“ and the crowd gave it back tenfold. A beautiful mix of nostalgia and new life.

Colour of Noise ๐ŸŒˆ

A short-lived but beautifully unique band, Colour of Noise were a breath of technicolour fresh air. Their mix of psychedelic rock, blues and soaring melody felt like a love letter to the ’70s with a modern twist.

Can You Hear Me? and Canโ€™t Take It With You stood out, while Bruce John Dickinsonโ€™s guitar work shimmered with tone and texture. Their set felt a little like magic โ€“ gone too soon, but never forgotten.

The Quireboys ๐ŸŽฉ

Spike and co returned to Steelhouse with their pub rock magic fully intact. Their set felt like a party, a reunion, and a damn good gig all rolled into one.

7 Oโ€™Clock, Mona Lisa Smiled, This Is Rock โ€˜nโ€™ Roll โ€“ every track was a crowd anthem, delivered with whiskey-drenched charm and bandstand swagger. No theatrics. Just good tunes and great vibes. Tidy as a pint at sunset.

Nazareth (Headliner) ๐Ÿงจ

A legendary close to a legendary weekend. With Carl Sentance now fronting the band, many wondered how Nazareth would feel. The answer? Loud. Proud. And absolutely worthy of the name.

Razamanaz, This Flight Tonight, Hair of the Dog โ€“ each one shook the hilltop with heavy, gritty glory. Carl delivered the vocals with powerful respect, and the band behind him were sharp and defiant. Closing the festival with Love Hurts, sung by thousands under the fading light, was a goosebump moment.

Nazareth proved that legacy bands still have fire, and Steelhouse stood in awe.

๐Ÿ Final Thoughts โ€“ Steelhouse 2015: A Star-Making Turn

Steelhouse 2015 was the start of something bigger.

๐ŸŽธ The crowd grew.
๐Ÿ”ฅ The lineup impressed.
๐Ÿฒ And the mountain? It felt alive.

From Tykettoโ€™s emotional triumph to The Darknessโ€™s OTT fun, from Florence Blackโ€™s early fire to Nazarethโ€™s mighty farewell, it all came together into a weekend that turned Steelhouse from a passion project into a pillar of UK rock festivals.

2015 wasnโ€™t just great. It was game-changing.

See you back up the hill, butt. Cymru am byth! ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’ช
