If you were dreaming of kicking off your festival weekend with a pint in one hand and a riff in the other, Maid of Stone Festival 2025 had other plans. Because instead of headbanging, many punters found themselves head-scratching and rage-posting from car parks, portaloos (or lack thereof), and power-dead pitches.
Itโs day one, and already things are going well off-key โ hereโs what went downโฆ
๐งญ LOST IN MAIDSTONE โ โWHERE THE BLOODY HELL IS IT?โ
You know things are grim when your weekend starts with a quest. Finding the actual entrance to the festival became a mini episode of Survivor: Kent Edition. If youโve never been to the site before, thereโs zero signage telling you where to go. No arrows. No banners. Not even a cardboard sign nicked from a pizza delivery.
One poor punter said it best:
โNot one sign saying โfestival this wayโโฆ ended up circling a blooming leisure centre like I was doing laps for PE class.โ
Hereโs the local tip, butt:
๐ฏ Head for the Mote Park Leisure Centre, because thatโs apparently the secret entrance to this Bermuda Triangle of festivals.
๐ POWERLESS TO ROCK โ FIRST BAND MISSED ENTIRELY?!
Weโre not even joking โ the first band didnโt get to play. Why? Because the electric hook-up wasnโt working. The power box was reportedly too far away, which, we dunno, maybe someone couldโve figured out before 10,000 rock fans showed up?
Picture this:
Roadies scrambling, musicians pacing, amps sitting silent like relics in a museum. And all of us, standing there, collectively thinking:
โThis is a music festival, right? Not a silent disco for ghosts?โ
No oneโs asking for Glastonbury-level tech. Just a plug socket. Tidy.
๐ฝ THE PORTALOO THAT NEVER WAS
Now, this bitโs genuinely toilet humour. Loads of attendees who paid extra for their own personal portaloo arrived to findโฆ nothing. No loo. No explanation. Just empty plots and full bladders.
One festivalgoer fumed:
โPaid for a private portaloo and thereโs sod all here. Guess Iโll have to hold it until the encore. Or die trying.โ
Weโve all done the desperate โfestival weeโ in a bush before. But when youโve paid for the privilege of porcelain peace, this hits different. And not in a good way.
๐ต FIRST TIME? MORE LIKE LAST TIMEโฆ
For loads of fans, this was their first-ever Maid of Stone Festival โ and based on the opening chaos, it might also be their last. Hereโs what punters expected:
- Smooth check-in โ
- Clear signs โ
- Working power โ
- Toilets they paid for โ
Hereโs what they got:
- A car park conga line โ
- A real-life episode of Lost โ
- Electric fail at a music festival โ
- Portaloos that ghosted harder than your ex โ
Not exactly the dream.
๐ค โWILL THE SHOW GO ON?โ
We bloody hope so. Because letโs not forget โ the lineup itself is tasty. Thereโs real potential here. And if the organisers can sort out the basics (likeโฆ signs, power, and actual toilets), this could turn around.
But that first impression? Oof.
It hit harder than a Black Sabbath drop-tuned breakdown โ in the wrong way.
โก THE (SLIGHTLY SHOCKING) VERDICT
Hereโs how The Riff Report rates Day One:
| Category | Score | Commentary |
|---|---|---|
| Finding the Festival | 1/10 | โDo we need GPS or divine intervention?โ |
| Electric Hook-Up | 2/10 | โPlug it in, lads. Just plug it in.โ |
| Portaloo Situation | 0/10 | โThe only thing flushing is my patience.โ |
| Band Experience | ?/10 | โTo rate it, it has to happen firstโฆโ |
| Crowd Vibes | 7/10 | โBless the fans for keeping it rockinโ.โ |
๐งป FINAL THOUGHTS FROM THE BOG ROLL FRONTLINE
Look, weโre not here to tear the whole thing apart. Festivals are messy. Things go wrong. But this was day one, and the basics were not even close to being sorted.
Maid of Stone could be a proper gem on the UK festival circuit, especially for rock and metal fans. But only if they get their act together โ and fast.
No oneโs expecting luxury glamping and five-star cuisine. Just a stage with power, a portaloo that exists, and maybe a helpful sign or two that doesnโt involve asking strangers outside a leisure centre for directions.
Weโll keep our ear to the ground (and probably an eye on the nearest functioning toilet). Stay tuned, rockers ๐ค
