Grab the battle jacket, locate the tent that definitely still smells slightly of last summer and start preparing for the annual pilgrimage because Download Festival returns to Donington Park from Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 June 2027.
The UK’s biggest dedicated rock and metal festival is heading back to the spiritual home of rock, bringing thousands of Downloaders together for five days of camping, community, late-night madness and โ from Friday through Sunday โ some of the biggest names in heavy music.
And despite the 2027 line-up still being under wraps, people clearly aren’t waiting around.
Download has already declared 2027 its fastest-selling edition ever, with Early Bird tickets disappearing and the festival moving into its Late Bird ticket phase.
That tells you everything you need to know.
The bands aren’t even on the poster yet and Donington is already calling.
๐ฅ Download Festival 2027 Line-Up
The big question remains:
Who’s playing Download 2027?
At the moment, the 2027 band line-up has not yet been officially announced.
So ignore any suspicious posters doing the rounds claiming your mate’s favourite band, Metallica, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters and seventeen impossible reunions are definitely playing.
Festival rumour season is glorious nonsense.
Until Download says it?
It’s not confirmed.
What we do know is that Download continues to book across the widest possible spectrum of rock and heavy music, meaning the eventual 2027 poster is likely to bring together everything from arena-filling rock and metal giants to hardcore, punk, metalcore, alternative, industrial, progressive, electronic-heavy crossover and underground discoveries.
And once those first names finally land?
Expect social media to become completely unusable for several hours.
The Riff Report Festival Calendar will be updated as soon as the first official Download Festival 2027 bands are announced.
๐ฐ The Spiritual Home Of Rock
You can’t talk about Download without talking about Donington Park.
Long before Download existed, Donington had already become sacred ground for British rock fans through the legendary Monsters Of Rock festivals.
AC/DC.
Metallica.
Iron Maiden.
Guns N’ Roses.
Bon Jovi.
Ozzy Osbourne.
Deep Purple.
Some enormous chapters in rock and metal history were written on these fields.
Download took up the torch in 2003 and transformed Donington into an annual gathering for modern heavy music.
More than two decades later, walking through those gates still means something.
For plenty of fans, Download isn’t simply another festival.
It’s home.
๐ค Five Days At Donington
Download’s full 2027 festival period begins on Wednesday 9 June for five-night campers.
That gives you Wednesday and Thursday to get settled, explore District X, meet up with festival mates and begin making decisions your Sunday morning self may strongly question.
Three-night campers arrive from Friday for the main live-music weekend.
Then the arena properly explodes into life across:
Friday 11 June
Saturday 12 June
Sunday 13 June
Three enormous days of rock and metal.
Followed by Monday morning’s traditional final performance:
Trying to fit the tent back into a bag apparently manufactured for something half its size.
๐ช The Download Stages
Download traditionally spreads its enormous line-up across a mixture of outdoor stages and tented venues.
At the centre of everything sits the mighty Apex Stage, Download’s main stage and home to the biggest performances of the weekend.
Then you’ve got Opus, another huge platform for heavyweight artists, alongside stages and spaces designed for everything from emerging talent to punk, hardcore, alternative music and the stranger corners of the heavy universe.
Recent Download layouts have also featured names including The Avalanche Stage, Dogtooth, The Doghouse, The Den and The Outpost.
The exact 2027 stage programme and configuration will become clearer once the new line-up and site information arrives.
One thing is guaranteed:
There will be clashes.
Horrible ones.
You’ll study the schedule for three weeks and still somehow find two of your must-see bands playing simultaneously.
That’s Download tradition.
๐ District X โ The Party Doesn’t End With The Headliner
Think Download goes quiet when the arena closes?
Oh, bless.
District X keeps the festival going long after the main bands have finished.
DJs.
Entertainment.
Comedy.
Alternative club nights.
Cinema.
Live performances.
Random festival nonsense.
And thousands of people who have apparently forgotten sleep exists.
Wednesday and Thursday are particularly brilliant for exploring the campsite entertainment before the main arena takes over your life.
By Friday, you’ll confidently tell everyone:
โI’m having an early one tonight.โ
Nobody believes you.
Not even you.
โบ General Camping
For the traditional Download experience, there’s General Camping.
Five-night campers arrive from Wednesday.
Three-night campers arrive from Friday.
Then your tent becomes home for the weekend.
Your camping chair becomes furniture.
A cool box becomes a kitchen.
And whichever path leads back from District X becomes increasingly confusing after midnight.
It’s messy.
It’s noisy.
It’s sometimes muddy.
And for thousands of Downloaders, it’s absolutely part of the magic.
๐ฑ Eco Camping
Want the Download camping experience with a stronger environmental focus?
Eco Camping is available in both three-night and five-night formats.
The area is aimed at festival-goers willing to make a greater commitment to looking after the campsite and reducing waste.
Because abandoning an entire tent on Monday morning isn’t rock โnโ roll.
It’s just being a knob.
Take your gear home.
Use it again.
Keep Donington tidy.
Simple.
๐ด Quiet Camping
Not everybody wants somebody screaming Limp Bizkit lyrics outside their tent at 3:47am.
Enter Quiet Camping.
You still get the full Download experience.
You still spend the entire day surrounded by riffs.
But once you’re back at camp, the atmosphere is designed to be considerably calmer.
There comes a point in life where sleeping starts to sound surprisingly attractive.
No shame in it.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง Mini Moshers
Families also have the dedicated Mini Moshers campsite.
For 2027, Download has introduced specific three-night and five-night Mini Moshers tickets, creating a dedicated family area with a more relaxed atmosphere.
The campsite is designed for families with at least one child aged 15 or under and includes useful facilities such as baby-changing areas.
It’s a cracking option for parents introducing the next generation to Download without pitching them directly beside someone who’s brought a portable speaker and absolutely no concept of bedtime.
๐ถ Download With Kids
Download welcomes younger rockers.
Anyone under 16 must attend with an adult aged 18 or over, while under-fives can attend free with the appropriate booking.
The festival also provides child identification wristbands and family-focused guidance to help parents navigate the weekend.
And one thing is absolutely essential:
Hearing protection.
Children should have proper age-appropriate ear defenders.
Adults should use filtered concert plugs too.
Metal is brilliant.
Tinnitus isn’t.
Protect those lugholes.
๐ Campervans
Prefer your festival accommodation to have actual walls?
Campervan camping is available in both three-night and five-night formats, subject to capacity.
These spaces are always popular and some allocations can disappear very quickly.
So if your ideal festival experience involves a proper mattress, a little shelter and considerably less time arguing with tent poles, keep an eye on ticket availability.
Your back will thank you.
๐จ Rock Retreat At Melbourne Hall
Download also offers its off-site Rock Retreat at Melbourne Hall.
This gives festival-goers another accommodation option away from the traditional campsite environment, combining festival access with a more relaxed base.
Perfect for anyone who loves Download but has reached the stage where waking up on an airbed covered in condensation no longer feels particularly rebellious.
You can love death metal and a decent night’s sleep simultaneously.
There are no rules.
โจ RIP & Premium Options
For those wanting to turn Download into a considerably more luxurious operation, RIP packages and premium accommodation options are also traditionally part of the festival.
Some 2027 upgraded packages have already shown strong demand, with several options selling through their available allocations.
Expect various combinations of upgraded accommodation, hospitality and facilities depending on the package.
Essentially:
Download.
But posher.
Still muddy boots, though.
Probably.
๐๏ธ Download Festival 2027 Tickets
Tickets are currently on sale, with Download now advertising its Late Bird allocation after an extremely strong initial response.
Ticket types include:
Five-Night General Camping
Three-Night General Camping
Five-Night Eco Camping
Three-Night Eco Camping
Quiet Camping
Mini Moshers
Campervan Camping
Weekend Arena โ No Camping
Rock Retreat
RIP options
Parking and travel extras
Current five-night general camping tickets are already sitting above the original Early Bird price, so anyone definitely planning on attending should remember that Download tickets move through different pricing tiers.
Waiting can mean paying more.
And given that 2027 is already being described as the fastest-selling Download ever, that’s worth keeping in mind.
๐ซ Day Tickets
Individual day tickets are not yet on sale.
Those traditionally become more relevant once the line-up and daily splits are available.
So if you’re waiting specifically for Friday, Saturday or Sunday?
You’ll need a little patience.
Once the headliners and day breakdowns arrive, expect considerably more ticket activity.
๐ณ Pay In 3
Download currently supports PayPal Pay in 3 through its official ticketing arrangements for eligible purchases.
That gives festival-goers the option of spreading the cost rather than taking the entire Download-sized hit in one go.
Because between tickets, travel, camping gear, food and the completely unnecessary seventh band shirt you’re definitely going to buy…
Festival budgets can get lively.
โฟ Accessibility At Download
Download operates a dedicated accessibility programme.
Festival-goers requiring accessible facilities should purchase the appropriate standard festival ticket and then complete the festival’s separate accessibility application once applications open.
Facilities can include accessible camping, viewing areas, toilets, mobility support and other services depending on individual requirements.
Essential Companion arrangements are also handled through the accessibility process rather than requiring everyone to automatically buy an additional standard ticket.
Anyone requiring support should get the application sorted early.
Donington is enormous.
Planning matters.
๐ง Welfare & Quiet Space
Festivals can be brilliant and overwhelming in roughly equal measure.
Download provides welfare support across the weekend, including dedicated teams available to help festival-goers who are struggling physically or mentally.
The festival has also used sensory calm spaces for people needing somewhere quieter away from the noise, lights and crowds.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking twenty minutes out.
Drink some water.
Sit down.
Reset.
Then get back to being flattened by guitars.
๐ Getting To Download Festival
Donington Park sits close to East Midlands Airport, making Download surprisingly well connected for something that essentially becomes a temporary city.
Festival-goers arrive by:
๐ Car
๐ Train and connecting transport
๐ Coach
โ๏ธ Plane
๐๏ธ Motorbike
Official coach partner Big Green Coach operates return festival services from locations around the UK, with more than 100 pickup points available for 2027.
That can be particularly handy if nobody in the group fancies being designated driver.
Or if your car takes one look at the amount of camping gear and quietly gives up.
๐ Parking
Anyone driving needs the appropriate parking pass.
Download strongly recommends buying parking in advance rather than relying on availability when you arrive.
And remember:
Festival traffic around Donington can get very busy.
Particularly when everybody decides to leave at approximately the same time on Monday morning.
Bring snacks.
Bring patience.
Bring a playlist.
๐ Food & Drink
Download is essentially a temporary town.
Which means food options are extensive.
Expect everything from burgers, breakfast and pizza to vegetarian, vegan and specialist traders scattered around the arena and campsites.
You will spend far more money than you intended.
You will somehow still end up eating something at midnight.
And by Sunday, a breakfast wrap may genuinely feel capable of restoring your soul.
Festival science.
๐ Merch โ Financial Danger Zone
Download’s merch operation is dangerous.
Official festival shirts.
Headliner merch.
Band shirts.
Hoodies.
Patches.
Accessories.
Limited-edition bits.
Things you didn’t know existed until you’re suddenly standing at the counter holding your bank card.
Set yourself a budget.
Then completely ignore it.
That’s the Download way.
๐ฑ The Official Download App
The official Download Festival app becomes increasingly useful once the complete line-up and running order are published.
You can build your schedule, keep track of stage times, access festival information and navigate food, drink and other services.
Once that first proper 2027 clashfinder lands?
Get it installed.
Because trying to remember fifty stage times while standing in a field after several festival beverages is optimistic at best.

๐ฅ Why Download Belongs On Every Rock Fanโs Calendar
Download isn’t perfect.
No festival the size of a small town ever will be.
There are queues.
There are clashes.
The weather occasionally decides everyone needs character building.
And you’ll probably spend part of Monday wondering why you packed seventeen things you never used.
But there’s still something special about Donington.
Standing in that crowd as the lights go down.
Hearing tens of thousands of people roar.
Watching enormous bands on a stage surrounded by rock history.
Discovering someone brilliant in a smaller tent.
Bumping into mates you haven’t seen since last Download.
Seeing the battle jackets.
The costumes.
The flags.
The campsite communities.
The Mini Moshers experiencing their first festival.
The veterans returning for another year.
That’s why people call it home.
So get 9โ13 June 2027 into the calendar.
Sort the ticket.
Find the tent.
Start the group chat.
And wait for that first enormous line-up announcement to land.
