(A Riff Report Public Service Announcement… kind of)
🛏 Accommodation: The Trecco Bay Mystery
You’re staying in a caravan in January. It will be either:
- Boiling hot because the heating works too well and you’ve cooked yourself like a pasty in Greggs.
- Arctic cold because the heating has died and you’re now wearing every item of clothing you own, plus a towel as a scarf.
Tip: Bring extra blankets, an electric hot water bottle, or befriend someone with a hotter caravan. Offers of cider work as currency.
🍻 Drinks Strategy – Avoid the 9PM Collapse
- Yes, it’s Planet Rock’s Winter’s End — but pace yourself, mun. You don’t want to pass out before Orianthi shreds your face off.
- Rotate beer with water like you’re in some sort of hydration mosh pit.
- If you see someone necking a pint of cider at 10am… they’re either a seasoned veteran or a future cautionary tale.
🎶 Band Etiquette – Mosh Smart, Sing Loud
- You’re there for Orianthi, GUN, Tyketto, Tailgunner, The Damn Truth, and a pile of other riff-slingers.
- Don’t stand there scrolling on your phone. If you wanted to watch through a screen, you could have stayed home and annoyed the cat.
- If you’re going to request a song, don’t yell Free Bird. We’re begging you.
🥶 January in Wales – Dress for War
Winter’s End isn’t about fashion — it’s about survival.
- Layers are your friend.
- Gloves you can hold a pint in are a must.
- Bonus points for rock-themed scarves (Black Sabbath > Primark).
- If it’s raining sideways (and it will), you’ll look better in a soaked leather jacket than in a Poundland poncho.
🍔 Fuel Up or Fall Over
- Trecco Bay has food options, but remember: chips are not a full nutritional plan.
- Stock up on snacks in your caravan. Midnight pasties will save your life.
- Don’t try to live on rum alone — that’s pirate territory, and pirates don’t survive Winter’s End either.
🛁 Festival Showers – Choose Your Moment
- Brave the morning rush and you’ll witness the Hunger Games of Hygiene.
- Shower at odd times (like during someone’s acoustic set) and you might get hot water.
- Or embrace your inner rocker and claim that “festival musk” is part of the vibe.
🦆 Beware of Trecco Bay Wildlife
- Seagulls here aren’t scared of you. They’ll steal your chips, your pasty, and possibly your dignity.
- Pro tip: Never leave food unattended unless you want to see a gull eat it mid-flight like a winged delinquent.
📅 The Winter’s End Daily Routine (Realistic Version)
- Wake up late, mildly hungover.
- Coffee. Regret. Bacon.
- Afternoon band session — pint in hand.
- Evening headliner — pint in each hand.
- Back to caravan. Loud afterparty. Question life choices.
- Repeat until Sunday night collapse.
🚨 Golden Rules of Winter’s End
- Never drink the mystery punch someone made in their caravan kitchen.
- Make at least one new festival mate — you’ll see them again at Steelhouse and act like long-lost cousins.
- If you hear someone yelling “C’mon butt!” … follow them. It’s probably where the fun is.
Final thought: You’ll come back from Winter’s End tired, broke, and slightly confused… but with stories, selfies, and a ringing in your ears that’ll last until Steelhouse. Proper job! 🏴🤘

He believes every band deserves a chance to be discovered and every festival has a story worth telling. Through The Riff Report, he aims to shine a spotlight on both the biggest names in rock and the future stars waiting to break through.
When he’s not writing or interviewing artists, you’ll probably find him exploring festival campsites, photographing live shows, chatting with fellow fans over a pint, or planning the next road trip in search of more riffs, bigger crowds, and unforgettable moments.
Above all, Michael believes rock and metal are about more than music—they’re about community, friendship, and creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s exactly what The Riff Report exists to celebrate.
