Six decades later and The Monkees are still taking that last train to Clarksville! 🚂🎶

Micky Dolenz has extended his hugely nostalgic 60 Years of The Monkees anniversary tour into 2027, keeping the celebrations rolling as one of pop-rock’s most colourful legacies reaches an incredible milestone.

The tour originally kicked off in February 2026, marking 60 years since The Monkees exploded onto television screens, record players and teenage bedroom walls in 1966.

And apparently, sixty years simply isn’t enough.

More shows are now heading into 2027. 🤘

🎤 Sixty Years of Monkees Madness

It’s genuinely bonkers when you think about it.

The Monkees debuted in 1966.

That means their music has survived vinyl, 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs, MP3 players, iPods, streaming services and whatever algorithm is currently deciding what we’re supposed to listen to while making tea.

Yet songs including “I’m a Believer,” “Last Train to Clarksville,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” “Daydream Believer” and “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” remain instantly recognisable.

That’s some serious staying power, butt.

The anniversary concerts celebrate the music, television madness and extraordinary story surrounding Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, whose unlikely journey became one of the great pop-culture stories of the 1960s.

🥁 Micky Dolenz Keeps The Music Alive

Dolenz is now the sole surviving member of The Monkees, following the deaths of Davy Jones in 2012, Peter Tork in 2019 and Michael Nesmith in 2021.

That inevitably gives these anniversary concerts an additional emotional weight.

They’re not simply nostalgia shows.

They’re celebrations of friendships, songs and memories that have travelled across generations.

Dolenz has spent years keeping The Monkees’ music alive onstage, and the 60 Years of The Monkees concerts provide another opportunity for fans to hear those songs performed by someone who was standing right there when the whole glorious circus began.

And what a circus it was.

📺 From Television Experiment To Genuine Rock History

It’s easy to forget just how unusual The Monkees’ beginnings were.

The group was originally assembled for the television series The Monkees, which premiered in September 1966 and followed the fictional adventures of a struggling rock band.

Basically: four musicians, ridiculous situations, catchy songs and enough chaos to make modern reality television look sensible.

But something unexpected happened.

The fictional band became a very real phenomenon.

Records flew off shelves.

Concerts attracted enormous crowds.

The television programme became a cultural landmark.

And eventually, the musicians themselves fought for greater control over their music and proved they were considerably more than manufactured television personalities.

The Monkees ultimately sold millions of records worldwide, leaving behind a catalogue packed with some of the most enduring pop-rock songs of their generation.

🚂 ‘Last Train To Clarksville’ Still Has A Ticket

There’s something wonderful about audiences still singing these songs sixty years later.

You can practically guarantee that the opening moments of “Last Train to Clarksville” will have people grinning before the first chorus even arrives.

Then you’ve got “Daydream Believer.”

Good luck standing silently through that one.

You’d have more chance convincing a festival crowd that £8 for a pint is completely reasonable.

🍺😬

And when “I’m a Believer” kicks in?

Game over.

Everybody suddenly becomes an honorary member of The Monkees.

🇺🇸 The Celebration Rolls Into 2027

The extended anniversary run means Dolenz will continue taking the story of The Monkees across America into 2027, with more performances being added to what has already become a lengthy celebration of the band’s 60th anniversary.

Among the dates confirmed for 2027 are shows in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 22 January, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on 24 January, and Carmel, Indiana on 27 February.

The wider tour features more than 20 performances across the United States, giving fans another opportunity to celebrate the songs that helped soundtrack the 1960s and never really disappeared afterwards.

Further dates could potentially turn up as the anniversary celebrations continue.

❤️ More Than Just Nostalgia

Of course, nostalgia is a massive part of a tour like this.

Fans who watched The Monkees during their original television run can revisit songs connected with their youth.

People who discovered them through repeats can finally experience the music live.

And younger generations who found “Daydream Believer” or “I’m a Believer” through parents, films, playlists and increasingly strange corners of the internet can join the party too.

That’s the magic of genuinely timeless music.

It doesn’t really belong to one generation anymore.

It just keeps finding another one.

🤘 The Riff Report Says…

Sixty years.

Think about that for a second.

Most bands would be delighted to have one song remembered six years later, never mind having an entire catalogue still being sung six decades after the madness began.

The Monkees might have started life through a television programme, but the music escaped the screen a very long time ago.

Now Micky Dolenz continues carrying that legacy from theatre to theatre, celebrating his old bandmates while keeping those ridiculously infectious songs alive.

There will be smiles.

There will probably be a few tears.

There will definitely be people shouting every word of “Daydream Believer.”

And somewhere, somehow, that last train to Clarksville is apparently still running. 🚂🔥

Fair play, mun.

The Monkees at 60 — still weird, still wonderful and still making believers out of us all. 🎸🐒
