Gig Buddies is a project that pairs adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults with volunteers who share the same interests — especially live music and events.
Simple concept.
Massive impact.
It started in Sussex and has grown into a wider movement across the UK.
The mission?
Make sure no one misses out on the cultural life of their community just because they don’t have someone to go with.
🎸 What Do They Actually Do?
Gig Buddies matches people based on shared interests.
Into metal?
They’ll find you a metal mate.
Love pop?
Sorted.
Obsessed with indie?
There’s a buddy for that.
Then they go to gigs together. Festivals. Club nights. Comedy shows. Whatever floats their boat.
Not carers.
Not support workers.
Friends.
That’s the key.

Live music is about belonging.
It’s about standing in a room full of strangers and suddenly feeling like you’re not alone.
But if you can’t access that space comfortably, you miss out on something powerful.
