๐ธ HOW IT ALL STARTED (BRIGHTON GOT THE BALL ROLLING)
Back in 2013, down in Brighton & Hove, the team behind learning disability charity Stay Up Late noticed something that didnโt sit right.
Loads of adults with learning disabilities were going home when support shifts ended.
10pm hits.
Carers clock off.
Nightโs over.
Meanwhile the rest of us are screaming for an encore, ordering one more pint, and arguing about whoโs getting chips on the way home.
That gap? That unfair, invisible line between โsupportedโ and โincludedโ?
Gig Buddies smashed straight through it.
The idea was simple, lush, and borderline genius:

๐ Go to gigs, clubs, wrestling nights, festivals, theatre โ whatever floats your musical boat.

Just mates. Going out. Living life.

Gig Buddies isnโt just โletโs take someone to a showโ.

Each branch keeps the same ethos: nobody should be isolated just because the system wasnโt built for late nights and loud music.
They also work with venues to improve accessibility, raise awareness around loneliness, and train volunteers so the partnerships are meaningful and safe.
