The Slam Dunk Festival 2027 line-up has not yet been officially announced.

But the first artist announcement is expected as the festival begins building towards the May Bank Holiday weekend.

🎸 What Is Slam Dunk Festival?

Slam Dunk began life in 2006 as a comparatively small event in Leeds.

What followed was one of the great success stories of the modern British alternative scene.

The festival steadily grew alongside the explosion of pop-punk, emo and post-hardcore culture, eventually developing into a huge annual May Bank Holiday gathering.

🎂 More Than Two Decades Of Slam Dunk

By 2027, Slam Dunk has been part of the British alternative scene for more than twenty years.

That’s quite something.

People who first attended Slam Dunk as teenagers are now returning with slightly dodgy knees, significantly better festival budgets and occasionally children of their own.

The scene has changed.

Bands have formed.

Bands have broken up.

Bands have reunited.

Skinny jeans disappeared.

Then apparently started threatening to return.

MySpace died.

Streaming took over.

Yet Slam Dunk kept going.

And that longevity has allowed the festival to become something considerably bigger than one day’s entertainment.

For many alternative music fans, it’s become an annual reunion.

🖤 Emo Never Died

Slam Dunk remains one of the safest environments imaginable for testing the theory that:

Emo never died.

Judging by the number of people still capable of screaming entire songs about heartbreak written twenty years ago?

Correct.

The festival has consistently celebrated bands from the great 2000s emo and post-hardcore explosion while simultaneously giving newer artists room to take those sounds somewhere else.

One of Slam Dunk South’s biggest advantages is public transport.

🚉 Hatfield Railway Station

The nearest station is:

The pedestrian entrance to the festival is located close to the railway station, making train travel one of the simplest ways of reaching Slam Dunk South.

Hatfield is directly connected with London King’s Cross, with journeys typically taking roughly twenty-odd minutes.

That makes it possible to stay in London or elsewhere along the rail route and travel into Hatfield on festival morning.

Very handy.

Especially because…

⛺ There Is No Camping

Slam Dunk South is a one-day festival with no campsite.

For some festival-goers, that sentence will feel like poetry.

No tent.

No airbed.

No sleeping bag.

No campsite toilets.

No waking up at 6am because the inside of your tent has suddenly reached the temperature of Mercury.

You simply attend the festival and go home — or back to your hotel — afterwards.

Civilisation.

Of course, it does mean sorting transport or accommodation beforehand.

Don’t wait until the headliner finishes before suddenly thinking:

“How are we getting home?”

Planning is your friend.

Festival-goers travelling from further afield have several options.

Hotels around festival locations can become expensive as the weekend gets closer, so booking early is usually sensible.

The alternative?

Spend half your festival budget attempting to find somewhere on Saturday night because somebody confidently said:

“We’ll sort accommodation later.”

Slam Dunk traditionally works with Big Green Coach to provide direct festival transport from towns and cities around Britain.

Routes for South have previously served locations throughout Wales, the Midlands, southern England and London.

That includes very useful options for Welsh festival-goers, with services having operated from places including Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.

Coach services are designed to arrive before the music begins and leave after the headliners finish.

Which means:

No designated driver.

No hotel.

No attempting to understand unfamiliar railway connections after twelve hours of festival chaos.

Not a bad option.

🚗 Driving & Parking

Driving is also possible, with festival parking available separately.

If you’re planning to use the official car park, buy parking in advance rather than simply assuming everything will sort itself out on Sunday morning.

Festival traffic can get extremely busy.

Particularly when thousands of people all arrive within the same window.

Follow official signs as you approach Hatfield Park rather than blindly trusting whatever shortcut the sat-nav suddenly recommends.

Nobody needs to begin Slam Dunk stuck behind a tractor on a road apparently designed for horses.
