Musically, Mรฝvalyฤญr sit proudly within the realm of melodic death metal, but theyโre not content with staying in familiar territory. Folk traditions and orchestral stylings run deep here, with violin, cello, and nyckelharpa woven into the fabric of the sound. The album opens with โRequiemโ, a gateway rather than a song โ a rite of passage that ushers the listener into Mรฝvalyฤญrโs world. From there, โRecollectionโ plunges straight into the deep end: dense, layered, and ferocious. Cataclysmic drums collide with keyboards dancing between steel-clad guitars, while the vocals arrive with real bestial menace. The sense of drama is immense, unfolding in multiple musical chapters that set the tone for everything to come.
โReignโ follows โ measured, powerful, and drenched in tragedy. The riffs twist like cold mist around the melodies, and the harsh vocal delivery proves just how evocative and emotionally effective extreme vocals can be when used with purpose.
At the heart of the album sits the towering โThe Past Tales Part 1โ. From its opening notes, itโs magnificent โ bloodied riffs, haunting melodies, and a cinematic scope that feels like a curtain being pulled back on something vast and awe-inspiring. Beautiful female vocals add a crushing melancholy as โthe battle rages onโ, before the track flows seamlessly into โThe Past Tales Part 2โ. An epilogue, yes โ but one that stands strong in its own right, tumultuous and emotionally overwhelming, with stunning violin touches cutting straight through the soul.
Then comes โThe Mighty Never Fallโ, grabbing you by the collar with an iron fist of death metal โ immediate, engaging, and impossible to resist. The album closes with โRenascenceโ, a majestic march from the war-torn kingdom of The Past Tales back into the light of reality. As the sound fades, the vivid landscape of Mรฝvalyฤญrโs creation slowly slips awayโฆ leaving behind an ache. A pull. A need to return.
