There are young bands, and then there are bands who appear determined to make the rest of us wonder what the bloody hell we were doing with our teenage years.
Retsecrows firmly belong in the second category.
The Midlands rock and metal four-piece unleashed their latest single โManiacโ on 10 March 2026, marking their first new original material in more than 12 months and another sizeable step forward for one of the UKโs most exciting young grassroots rock outfits. (retsecrows.co.uk)
Pronounced โret-see-crowsโ, the band have spent the last few years doing things the proper old-fashioned rock โnโ roll way.
Playing gigs.
Then playing more gigs.
Then presumably wondering whether anybody fancies playing another gig.
Formed in Worcestershire in 2022, Retsecrows have steadily built their reputation through a relentless live schedule, and โManiacโ isnโt some studio experiment theyโve never tested outside four walls.
This one has already done its time in front of crowds.

๐ Meet Retsecrows
Retsecrows are a four-piece Midlands outfit currently consisting of:
- Luca โ Lead Vocals / Rhythm Guitar
- Ollie โ Lead Guitar
- Lily โ Bass
- George โ Drums
All four members are still teenagers, yet Retsecrows have already accumulated the sort of live experience many considerably older bands would happily nick.
Their sound draws heavily from the Midlandsโ frankly ridiculous heavy-music heritage while bringing considerably more modern influences into the equation.
The band cite the likes of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest alongside Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Bring Me The Horizon, Sleep Token, Fontaines D.C., South Arcade and The Cost among the artists influencing their musical direction. (retsecrows.co.uk)
Thatโs quite a musical stew.
And we approve.
Oh, and the name?
Retsecrows is essentially โWorcesterโ backwards with an S.
Which is exactly the sort of completely unnecessary rock trivia weโre delighted to have rattling around our heads. ๐

โManiacโ represents an important progression for Retsecrows.
The song had already been part of the bandโs live set before entering the studio, allowing them to develop it in front of actual audiences rather than simply guessing what worked from inside a rehearsal room.
According to vocalist and guitarist Luca, crowds had been repeatedly asking when the track would finally be released.
That live development appears to have played a major role in what Retsecrows wanted from the finished recording.
The goal was simple:
Capture the energy of the band onstage.
And go heavier.

๐ธ Heavy Riffs And Punchy Hooks
Retsecrows describe themselves rather brilliantly as:
Dirty metal. Guitar-driven rock. No apologies.
That tells you quite a lot in six words.

Because heaviness alone doesnโt necessarily make something memorable.
You need hooks.
You need personality.
And ideally you need something capable of making a sweaty room full of people start moving before theyโve even realised theyโre doing it.

For โManiacโ, Retsecrows once again teamed up with producer Jay Shredder, recording the track at his SLL Studio near Kidderminster.
Shredder comes with some serious heavy-metal credentials, having worked with artists connected to the likes of Saxon and KKโs Priest.
His job with โManiacโ was to preserve the raw energy Retsecrows had developed through performing the song live while giving those riffs and hooks the additional studio punch they needed. (retsecrows.co.uk)
For a young band developing its identity, finding a producer who understands what makes the live version work can be enormously important.
Polish everything too much and you risk sanding off all the interesting bits.
Leave everything completely untouched and you might fail to capture the song at its best.
The sweet spot sits somewhere between the two.
Preferably with the amps turned up irresponsibly loud.
โก From โGrief Of Meโ To โManiacโ
โManiacโ follows Retsecrowsโ first two singles, โGrief Of Meโ and โBlood Seaโ, both released during 2024.
Those early recordings helped introduce the band outside their growing live following, with โGrief Of Meโ and โBlood Seaโ attracting thousands of streams and radio attention. (retsecrows.co.uk)
But the gap before โManiacโ wasnโt wasted.
Rather than constantly throwing new recordings onto streaming services, Retsecrows spent much of that period gigging and developing their sound in front of audiences.

Retsecrowsโ rapid development has seen them graduate from local Midlands venues to increasingly prominent festival appearances.

๐ฅ And They Havenโt Stopped
โManiacโ might have arrived in March, but Retsecrows havenโt exactly spent the rest of 2026 sitting around admiring it.
The band followed it with another new single, โFollowโ, released on 4 September 2026.
That release coincided with another significant moment for the youngsters, with Retsecrows collaborating with legendary British equipment manufacturer Laney Amplification as the company launched its new AUDIOHUB range. (retsecrows.co.uk)
So within the space of a few months weโve had new music, festival appearances, more gigs and a collaboration with one of British rockโs best-known amplification names.
Not bad going when your average teenager is still being asked whether theyโve remembered their PE kit.

Grassroots rock doesnโt survive because somebody sits in an office and decides what the next big thing should be.
It survives because young musicians pick up guitars, basses and drumsticks, pile into venues and start making a glorious bloody racket.
Thatโs what makes Retsecrows worth watching.
Yes, their ages immediately grab attention.
How could they not?
But โtheyโre good for their ageโ isnโt the compliment young bands actually need.
The important question is whether the songs stand up once the novelty disappears.
And โManiacโ represents Retsecrows actively working towards exactly that.
Theyโve played it live.
Theyโve watched audiences react.
Theyโve developed it.
Theyโve taken it into the studio with an experienced producer.
And theyโve emerged with a heavier statement about where they want this band to go next.
Thatโs how bands grow.
Thereโll be plenty more lessons ahead, plenty more songs to write and undoubtedly a few absolutely horrific motorway service-station meals along the way.
But Retsecrows have something incredibly valuable on their side.
Time.
Theyโre already building stage experience while most musicians their age are only beginning to think about forming their first band.

Because the Midlands gave heavy music to the world once before.
