Anthrax have spent more than four decades waking up metalheads with crushing riffs, thunderous drums and choruses capable of rattling every window in the street.
Now they’re doing it with actual caffeine. ☕💀
The New York thrash legends have joined forces with Chicago roasters Dark Matter Coffee to create a limited-edition Cursum Perficio blend celebrating the arrival of their long-awaited twelfth studio album.
That’s right, butt — Anthrax coffee. Stick this in the tour bus kettle and nobody’s sleeping until Birmingham. 🤘
🔥 What Does Anthrax Coffee Taste Like?
Dark Matter Coffee has blended beans from Nicaragua and El Salvador to produce something considerably more sophisticated than the industrial-strength festival coffee usually served from a paper cup at 7am.
The blend combines:
- Washed-process Catuai coffee from Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua
- Bourbon and Pacas beans from farms around Santa Ana, El Salvador
- Chocolatey and nutty flavours
- A sweet citrus finish
- Tasting notes resembling Nutella, graham crackers and lemon tea
The Nicaraguan beans are roasted with additional heat to caramelise their natural sugars, creating a toastier and sweeter cup. The El Salvador coffee then piles in the chocolate flavours with just enough citrus to stop the whole thing becoming heavier than Scott Ian’s rhythm guitar.

☕ Whole Beans Or Cold Cans — Choose Your Weapon!
The limited-edition collaboration has been produced in two formats:
- 340g bagged coffee — available as whole beans or ground for drip coffee, espresso, press pot and pour-over brewing
- Coffee Cold eight-pack — containing eight 7.5oz cans, approximately 222ml each
The bag is listed at approximately £19, while the eight-pack works out at around £30, before international delivery fees, taxes or any other wallet-crushing surprises. Those sterling figures are approximate conversions from the American prices and may fluctuate.
At the time of writing, both products are displayed as unavailable on the Dark Matter website, suggesting fans may need to watch closely for stock updates or another caffeine-fuelled drop. 💀 A Brew Fit For A New Anthrax Era
Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante says the new blend delivers chocolatey and nutty flavours balanced by a sweet citrus finish. He also reckons it sits perfectly alongside his previous Dark Matter collaborations, Schism and The Devil You Know.
It arrives alongside Cursum Perficio, Anthrax’s first full-length studio album since 2016’s For All Kings. The new record lands on 18 September 2026, released through Megaforce in the United States and Nuclear Blast in Europe.
The Latin title can be translated as “I complete my journey” or “my journey has come to an end” — although Anthrax clearly aren’t planning to disappear quietly into the sunset. They’re releasing new music, playing enormous shows and apparently making sure the entire fanbase is sufficiently caffeinated for the pit.
The album was recorded largely at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles and produced by Jay Ruston alongside Anthrax. It reunites Scott Ian, Charlie Benante, Frank Bello, Joey Belladonna and Jonathan Donais for another blast of furious New York metal. Album and launch details
🎸 Midnight Signing Madness!
Anthrax will mark the album’s release with a special late-night signing at Guestroom Records in Louisville, Kentucky.
Following their 17 September performance at Louder Than Life festival, the band will head to the record shop and begin signing copies of Cursum Perficio at 12:01am on 18 September.
Attendance is limited, and fans must pre-order the album directly through Guestroom Records to qualify. That means no wandering in at midnight holding a random cereal box and asking Scott Ian to sign it, mun.
🤘 The Riff Report Verdict
Band-branded drinks can occasionally feel like somebody in marketing has been left unsupervised, but this Anthrax collaboration sounds properly thought through.
It’s got carefully selected Central American beans, distinctive flavours, cracking artwork and enough lyrical references to make old-school fans grin into their mugs.
Will it make you play guitar like Scott Ian? Probably not.
