Because you can’t rock on an empty stomach, and you sure as hell can’t mosh while bursting for a wee 💥🍺🚽
Welcome to The Riff Report’s no-holds-barred guide to the real essentials of surviving Steelhouse Festival: grub, grog, and the great portaloo lottery.

🥓 CHAPTER 1: BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS – BACON IN A HURRICANE

Let’s start with the most important meal of the day: the one you cook half-naked in a camping chair while holding a wind-battered frying pan with your knee.

Popular Morning Options:

  • The classic bacon bap – if you can get it before the queue looks like a Slipknot pit
  • Sausage rolls smuggled in from Greggs (VIP move, that is)
  • The famous “Mountain Fry-Up” – cooked entirely on a disposable BBQ and mild desperation
  • Tinned ravioli at 9am – no judgement here. Rock ‘n’ roll has no rules.

“We had eggs, beans, and six beers for breakfast. It’s called balance.” – Glyn, campsite chef and nutritional anarchist

🍟 CHAPTER 2: CHIPPY TEARS & CULINARY FEARS

Steelhouse food stalls are the stuff of legend. They come in two categories:

  1. The Delicious – burgers, noodles, loaded fries, and proper festival chow
  2. The Dubious – mystery meats, “gourmet” wraps, and one stand that only sells Yorkshire puddings for some reason

Fan Favourite Grub:

  • Loaded Fries of Destiny – cheese, pulled pork, and enough calories to fuel the Mountain Stage lights
  • Dirty Dogs – so filthy, they should come with a health warning
  • Curry in a Cone – controversial, messy, 10/10 would burn mouth again
  • Wood-fired pizza – because why not be fancy when wearing a Motörhead shirt?

“I ate five types of meat and I’m still not sure what one of them was. I loved it.” – Sam, probably still digesting

🍻 CHAPTER 3: BOOZE – THE FUEL OF THE FIELDS

Ah yes. The mountain nectar. Festival booze is a sacred tradition and a logistical challenge.

Your Options:

  • The Bar – cold pints, long queues, and that one lad who yells “CHEERS MUN!” every 3 seconds
  • BYOB – Bring Your Own Barrel (or box of wine. Or hip flask. Or inflatable keg.)
  • Tent Gin Palace – every campsite has that group with fairy lights, espresso martinis, and absolutely no mixers

Most Spotted Drinks:

  • Lukewarm cans of Carling
  • Craft ale that cost more than your tent
  • Homebrew labelled “DO NOT DRINK THIS” (drunk anyway)
  • That one bottle of Buckfast passed around at 2AM like a sacred relic

“I did the entire weekend on Dark Fruits and sheer stubbornness.” – Meg, proud and purple-tongued

🚽 CHAPTER 4: BOG ROLL BATTLES & LOO TACTICS

Steelhouse loos. The final frontier. The great leveller. Whether you’re a backstage pass-holder or a humble tent goblin, you will face the bogs.

The Bog Survival Kit:

  • Own toilet paper (never trust the supply)
  • Hand sanitiser (aka “Mountain Holy Water”)
  • Nose plug / scarf combo
  • Night torch (because falling into a portaloo in the dark is a tale no one wants to tell)

Real Talk:

  • First thing in the morning = pristine
  • By 4PM = questionable
  • By Saturday night = Doom Fortress of Stench™

“I’ve seen things in those loos that would make Ozzy blush.” – Dai the Security Lad

🍽️ CHAPTER 5: FESTIVAL FOOD HACKS FROM THE VETS

Because we’ve learned the hard way.

🧀 Pre-melted cheese slices = top-tier burger upgrade
🥤 Freeze bottles of squash = drink + cool box in one
🧃 Juice cartons > glass bottles (security + weight + nostalgia)
🍬 Bring Haribo. They make friends.
🥄 Pack a chip fork. The food stalls won’t save you.
🔥 Never trust a sausage roll left in a tent for more than 12 hours. That’s not food anymore. That’s science.

“The only thing worse than the rain is dropping your last pot noodle in the mud.” – Anonymous camper, still grieving

🍺 CHAPTER 6: LEGENDARY FOOD & DRINK MOMENTS IN STEELHOUSE HISTORY

You lot are unhinged. Here’s proof:

  • 2016: Someone built a pizza oven out of bricks. In a tent.
  • 2018: A crowd did a chant-led conga to the bar, complete with beer steins and a guy dressed as Freddie Mercury on a scooter
  • 2022: The “Cider Challenge” – one pint per band. 14 bands later, one survivor. Still twitching.
  • 2023: “Curry Van Rebellion” – a queue so long it spawned a side-stage acoustic set and a pop-up fortune teller

🏁 CHAPTER 7: EAT, DRINK & ROCK RESPONSIBLY (OR DON’T)

Steelhouse isn’t about fancy festival food or artisan gin with edible glitter. It’s about stuffing your face with cheesy chips at midnight, necking a warm tin of Doom Bar, and surviving the bogs with dignity (or without it).

Just remember:

  • Drink water occasionally (yes, boring, but we love you)
  • Don’t eat glowing meat
  • Share snacks, not germs
  • And if you drop your chips in the mud… five-second rule applies only if the band’s playing a banger

“We come for the music. We stay for the curry. We leave with regrets.” – Literally every Steelhouse fan ever
