Ronnie James Dio wasn’t just a singer. He was a mythmaker.
A tiny man with a titanic voice.
The sorcerer supreme of heavy metal.
And the inventor of the metal horns gesture your nan now throws up when she hears Iron Maiden on the telly.
After fronting Rainbow (with Ritchie Blackmore) and Black Sabbath (after Ozzy left), Ronnie decided to take the dragons by the reins and create Dio – a band where he could combine fantasy lyrics, pounding riffs, and voice-of-the-gods-level vocals into one unstoppable metal beast.
