February might be the shortest month of the year, but it doesn’t mess about when it comes to birthing absolute legends. From the architects of heavy metal to the grunge messiahs and bass-wielding chaos demons, this little month packs one hell of a punch.

🧨 February 1 – Big Boi (Outkast)
Born 1975 – Alright, let’s start spicy. Big Boi might be a hip-hop icon, but tell us Bombs Over Baghdad doesn’t hit harder than half the rock charts today. Pure energy. Pure chaos. Pure rock vibes.
🎤 February 2 – Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots)
Born 1966 – The groove beneath the grit. STP’s bassist and tone wizard. Without Rob’s slinky, sexy basslines, there’s no Vasoline, no Interstate Love Song, no 90s alt-rock perfection.
🐍 February 6 – Axl Rose (Guns N’ Roses)
Born 1962 – Where do you even start? Frontman of one of the wildest bands ever. From Welcome to the Jungle to November Rain, Axl made dramatic, snarling rock an artform. And yeah, he’s still hitting those glass-breaking high notes when he fancies it.
⚡ February 10 – Cliff Burton (Metallica)
Born 1962 – One word: Legend. Metallica’s original bassist changed everything with his classical-meets-doom basslines. If you’ve ever air-bassed to Orion, you already know. Gone far too soon, but always in the pit with us. 🖤
🎸 February 12 – Steve Hackett (Genesis)
Born 1950 – Prog royalty, fretboard magician, and finger-tapping pioneer. Long before Van Halen was melting minds, Hackett was already two-hand tapping like a wizard at Stonehenge.
🥁 February 15 – Mick Avory (The Kinks)
Born 1944 – The drummer behind You Really Got Me – one of the OG proto-metal riffs. Simple. Dirty. Loud. And Mick was smacking the kit like it owed him money.
🧨 February 16 – Andy Taylor (Duran Duran / The Power Station)
Born 1961 – Glam? Sure. But don’t sleep on his hard rock credentials. The Power Station was FILTHY. Andy brought the thunder. Shiny suits and all.
🧪 February 18 – Dennis DeYoung (Styx)
Born 1947 – Theatre kid energy in a rock band. DeYoung helped make Mr. Roboto a reality, and whether you love or hate it, it’s iconic AF. Prog rock weirdness? Give us more.
🎸 February 19 – Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
Born 1948 – BOW DOWN. The godfather of heavy metal. The riff master. The man who literally reshaped how metal was played — after losing the tips of his fingers. If your playlist has even one distorted guitar, thank this Brummie legend. 🖤🔥
🧠 February 20 – Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
Born 1967 – Grunge’s reluctant prophet. Kurt didn’t want to be a rock star, and that’s exactly why he became one. A tortured genius with a heart full of distortion. RIP to one of the most important voices in rock history. 💔🎸
🎧 February 22 – Kyle Christner (Linkin Park)
Born 1974 – Early Linkin Park fans will know Kyle from their Hybrid Theory demo days. His contributions to the band’s pre-fame chaos helped shape nu-metal’s biggest bombshell.
💀 February 23 – Ray Tabano (Aerosmith)
Born 1946 – One of the original members of Aerosmith before Joe Perry joined the circus. Still helped steer the ship when it was just a crazy rock’n’roll boat with Steven Tyler screaming on deck.
⚡ February 24 – George Thorogood
Born 1950 – Slide guitar? Check. Blues-soaked vocals? Double check. Bad to the Bone? That riff is burned into the DNA of every jukebox in the UK. Rock’s pub-crawling anti-hero. 🍺
🥁 February 25 – Sean O’Donnell (Yellowcard)
Born 1981 – Bassist, singer, and songwriter who helped pump life into emo/pop-punk with a violin of all things. Yellowcard didn’t follow the rules, and we love them for it.
🤠 February 26 – Johnny Cash
Born 1932 – Not rock? WRONG. Johnny Cash was heavier than most metal bands without ever raising his voice. I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. Don’t get more metal than that. The Man in Black forever.
👹 February 27 – Neal Schon (Journey)
Born 1954 – Guitar wizard behind Don’t Stop Believin’. His solos were buttery smooth and somehow stadium-sized. Journey gets the crowd singing every time. Admit it. You’ve belted it after 3 pints.
🥁 February 28 – Jonathan Davis (Korn)
Born 1971 – Nu-metal’s primal scream. The man who turned trauma into absolute rage. With bagpipes. No one sounds like JD. And no one ever will.
🧨 February 28 – Brian Jones (The Rolling Stones)
Born 1942 – One of the original wild children. Played more instruments than we can name. Brought Eastern flavour into the rock scene before most bands had even tuned their guitars.
