There are albums you listen to…
…and then there are albums that crawl inside your head, lock the door, and turn the lights off.

Cattle Hammer’s debut full-length Dark Thoughts With Lights Out squarely belongs to the latter. This is not background music. This is not casual listening. This is ritualised sonic punishment, delivered with intent, patience, and absolute contempt for comfort. 🕯️

🔨 WHO ARE CATTLE HAMMER?

Formed in spring 2023 by Duncan Wilkins (Fukpig / Mistress / ex-Anaal Nathrakh), Cattle Hammer exist at the intersection of sludge, drone, suffocating blackness, and deeply rooted emotional rot.

Their early statement of intent came via the 71-minute uninterrupted track ‘Methlehem’ — a grim endurance test that made one thing painfully clear: this band is willing to go all the way down.

Now comes the full descent.

🖤 DARK THOUGHTS WITH LIGHTS OUT – TRACK BY TRACK DESCENT

This album is four tracks.
It feels like four lifetimes.

⚫ Gloomsower

A slow-motion suffocation. Vocals howl like trapped spirits scraping at stone walls while riffs sink you deeper with every step. No gloss. No polish. Just raw misery rendered audible.

There is no relief.

⚫ Rotting

Judgement drips from every syllable. Monolithic riffs loom and collapse inward, dragging time itself into a lethargic blur. Days decay between chords. Skin withers. Hope erodes.

“…that’s what you’re entitled to… pain, suffering, misery…”

There is no mercy.

⚫ Watchmen, Alone

Disorientation first. Then impact. Jagged bursts of sound snap you awake before the hammer drops in crushing slow motion. Vicious. Brutish. Entirely inescapable.

There is no hope but death.

⚫ Body Puzzle

The final dismantling. Riffs collide like planets. Claustrophobic pressure mounts. A voice of damnation injects pure panic into the void. By the end, reality itself feels… optional.

⚠️ IS THIS ALBUM CRUEL OR CATHARTIC?

Yes.
Also harmful.
Also healing.

Released on CD and vinyl via Road To Masochist on 6 February 2026, Dark Thoughts With Lights Out is a confrontational, uncompromising slab of negativity that does not pretend to save you.

It will leave you hollowed out.
It will leave you questioning why you stayed.
It will also leave a strange, unsettling clarity in its wake.

Approach with care, mun. ⚠️

🖤 Riff Report Verdict:
This isn’t an album you recommend lightly.
This is an album you warn people about.

And then secretly hope they listen anyway.
