C’MON BUTT, IT’S HAPPENING! The tents are out, the beers are chillin’ (ish), and the riffs are calling – The Riff Report Blog have officially rolled up to Steelhouse Festival 2025 like a convoy of caffeinated rock gremlins. 🖤
We’ve made it up the mountain, through the madness of Merthyr traffic and at least three arguments about which turning to take, and we’re finally here – the mighty Mountain Stage in sight, the faint sound of soundchecks rattling our bones, and the unmistakable whiff of festival-grade burgers on the breeze. 🤤
🎒 THE SETUP: CHAOS AND CABLE TIES
Let’s be honest… we looked like a bunch of over-ambitious roadies trying to set up basecamp. Pegs flying. Gazebo trying to take off like Ozzy on a bat-powered jetpack. Someone forgot the mallet. Someone else brought three airbeds but no pump. Classic.
But after a bit of shouting, a lot of swearing, and a tactical pasty break, we’re up and running. Camp Riff Report is open for business – complete with fairy lights, folding chairs, and a portable speaker blaring Monster Truck like it’s 2016 all over again. 🎶🪩
🍺 THE BEERS ARE (BARELY) COLD
We brought a cool box. We packed it to the brim with cans of Tiny Rebel, Wrexham Lager, and a few cheeky tins of pre-mixed Jack & Coke. Did we test how long it would stay cold in blazing sunshine on a mountain slope? Absolutely not. 😅
So, enjoy them now, because by Saturday they’ll be hotter than the merch queue. Still… warm beer is a Steelhouse rite of passage, innit?
🤘 THE BANDS ARE COMING
We’ll be bringing you full reviews of every band this weekend – from Friday’s opening riffers to Sunday’s headline chaos. Expect us to scream about guitar solos, mosh like it’s our last gig on Earth, and cry emotionally over power ballads (again).
Got high hopes for the likes of Black Stone Cherry, Those Damn Crows, Skindred, and all the underrated acts hitting the stage early when the hangovers are fierce and the toilets are worse. 🥴
🧻 VIP? WE WENT THERE
This year, we even splashed out on the VIP Upgrade – and we’ll be letting you know if that extra £50 actually makes a difference, or if we just paid for a posher portaloo with slightly less terror inside. Spoiler alert: the lounge tent has already become our second home.
🏴 WHAT’S OCCURRING NEXT?
Over the next few days, you can expect chaos, crowd chants, cheeky pint pics, full-band breakdowns, and a few too many tweets about how much we love Skindred’s Benji. There’ll be no chill – just chillis from the food vans and chilling rain if the Welsh weather turns on us (which it will, obviously).
We’ll be posting:
- 🎤 Band reviews and photos
- 🍔 Festival food rankings
- 🦽 Access camping updates
- 😂 Embarrassing field moments
- 🤯 Mad merch finds
- 💩 Toilet truth bombs (VIP vs GA)
📸 FOLLOW THE MADNESS LIVE
Don’t miss a beat – we’ll be updating @theriffreportuk on socials all weekend long. Tag us in your photos, share your campsite disasters, and let us know if you spot someone passed out in a dinosaur onesie near the bar (again).
We’re here to soak it all in – the music, the mud, the madness – and report back with maximum volume.
SEE YOU IN THE PIT! 💥🎸
To everyone we meet up the mountain: diolch for being lush. To everyone reading at home: we’ll make sure you feel like you’re right here with us, pint in hand, shouting “YESS MUN!” at every solo.
Steelhouse 2025 – we’re bloody ready for you.
Stay loud, stay cheeky, and remember: if your tent isn’t tied down, it’s going airborne by Saturday. 🏕️💨

Michael is the founder, editor, and chief riff wrangler behind The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock and metal publication built by fans, for fans. With a lifelong passion for loud guitars, unforgettable live shows, and the incredible community that surrounds rock and metal, he created The Riff Report to celebrate everything that makes the scene special—from legendary headline acts and grassroots venues to rising bands that deserve to be heard.
A familiar face at festivals across the UK, Michael spends much of the year covering events including Download Festival, Bloodstock Open Air, Steelhouse Festival, Firevolt, Plumpton Revival, and many more. Whether he’s battling the Welsh weather on a mountainside, surviving a weekend in a muddy campsite, or squeezed against the front barrier with thousands of fellow fans, he’s always searching for the next great story to share.
As editor of The Riff Report, Michael writes festival guides, breaking news, album reviews, gig reviews, interviews, opinion pieces, nostalgia features, and behind-the-scenes stories from across the rock and metal world. His writing combines honest opinions, humour, and a genuine love for live music, bringing readers closer to the bands, festivals, venues, and people that keep the scene alive.
Michael is particularly passionate about supporting independent artists, local venues, charities, and the wider UK rock and metal community. He believes every band deserves a chance to be discovered and every festival has a story worth telling. Through The Riff Report, he aims to shine a spotlight on both the biggest names in rock and the future stars waiting to break through.
When he’s not writing or interviewing artists, you’ll probably find him exploring festival campsites, photographing live shows, chatting with fellow fans over a pint, or planning the next road trip in search of more riffs, bigger crowds, and unforgettable moments.
Above all, Michael believes rock and metal are about more than music—they’re about community, friendship, and creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s exactly what The Riff Report exists to celebrate.
Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. Always chasing the next great riff. 🤘
