We really miss you, butt… 🖤

Let’s not sugar-coat it — Chester Bennington was a once-in-a-generation talent. Voice like thunder, heart like a lion, and a scream that could split your soul in two. Since he left us in 2017, the world’s felt a little quieter, a little less real. But there are still so many layers to this legend — so here’s six things you (probably) didn’t know about the man behind Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and that scream that raised an entire generation of misfits.

1. 🧒 He Was in TWO Other Bands Before Linkin Park

Before Chester shook the earth with Crawling and One Step Closer, he fronted Grey Daze, a post-grunge band that he joined when he was just 15 (yes, FIFTEEN, c’mon!). And after LP blew up, he didn’t stop experimenting — he founded Dead by Sunrise, his alt-rock passion project, and even sang for Stone Temple Pilots for a stint. That voice never stood still, mun. 🎙️🔥

2. 📝 He Wrote Music to Cope With Trauma

Much of Linkin Park’s lyrical depth came from Chester’s real-life battles — with abuse, addiction, and depression. He once said writing songs was his therapy. Tracks like Breaking the Habit and Given Up weren’t just bangers — they were raw, bleeding confessions set to nu-metal chaos. The mic was his sword, and music his way of staying alive. 🎶🖤

3. 🤝 He Was Best Mates With Chris Cornell

Chester and Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell were incredibly close — like, family-level close. He even sang at Chris’s funeral. Heartbreakingly, Chester died on Chris’s birthday, July 20, 2017. Some believe it wasn’t a coincidence. The pain of that loss… was just too much. That bond was deeper than music. 💔💐

4. 🎬 He Was a Massive Nerd and Voice Actor

Chester did voice work and acting on the side! He had a little cameo in Crank: High Voltage and also voiced a character in Metalocalypse (yes, the most metal cartoon in existence 🤘). Turns out, the king of catharsis also had a wicked sense of humour and loved to game and geek out with his bandmates.

5. 🧡 He Was a Total Family Man

Behind all the roaring vocals and edgy tattoos was a lush, soft-hearted dad. Chester had six children and often said that fatherhood kept him grounded. He once said, “My kids are the best part of my day. Every day.” He even had “Family First” tattooed on his back. If that doesn’t melt your black metal heart, nothing will. 🫠👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

6. 🕊️ He Gave Everything On Stage — Even When He Was Hurting

Chester never faked it. When he screamed, it was real. Every note felt like he was letting you into the darkest corners of his mind — and he carried that weight even when he was breaking inside. Fans have shared stories of Chester staying for hours after shows, hugging fans, listening to their pain, telling them they mattered. He was more than a frontman. He was a lifeline. 🌌

We Really Miss You, Chester…

There’ll never be another like him. Chester Bennington wasn’t just the voice of a band — he was the voice of every kid who ever felt alone, lost, or unheard. He screamed for us when we couldn’t. And for that… Diolch, Chester. Proper job, mun. 🙏💔
