One of the biggest rock ’n’ roll musicals currently tearing up the theatre world is heading straight for Wales, as JUST FOR ONE DAY: The Live Aid Musical arrives at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from Tuesday 20 April to Saturday 24 April 2027.

And here’s the particularly tidy bit for Welsh music fans…

That’s right, butt. According to current Cardiff listings, tickets start from £20, with prices varying depending on performance, seating area and availability.

Considering we’re talking about a show packed with some of the biggest songs in rock and pop history, that’s not exactly wallet-destroying territory.

And this isn’t simply another jukebox musical chucking famous songs together and hoping everyone sings along.

This is the story of Live Aid.

And what a bloody story it is.

🌍 THE DAY MUSIC TRIED TO CHANGE THE WORLD

On 13 July 1985, the music world basically decided normal service could wait.

Live Aid brought together an extraordinary collection of artists for simultaneous concerts at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, raising money for famine relief in Ethiopia.

Organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the event became one of the defining moments in popular music history.

Millions watched around the world.

Legends walked onto those stages.

And then a certain bloke called Freddie Mercury sat down at a piano…

You know what happened next. 👑

Queen’s performance at Wembley has gone down as one of the greatest live performances in rock history.

Freddie commanding an entire stadium during Radio Ga Ga remains one of those goosebump-inducing moments that gets replayed endlessly four decades later.

But Live Aid was much bigger than one band.

The bill included a ridiculous collection of musical royalty, and JUST FOR ONE DAY brings that world back to life on stage.

This isn’t a tribute concert pretending to recreate Live Aid note-for-note, either.

The musical explores the people, decisions, chaos and ambition behind the event, telling the story of how one enormous idea became a global phenomenon.

🎭 FROM THE WEST END TO CARDIFF

JUST FOR ONE DAY has already enjoyed successful runs in London and received an Olivier Award nomination, and in 2027 the production is hitting the road for its first major UK and Ireland tour.

The tour begins in Leicester before rolling into Wales.

And Cardiff gets five days of the madness.

Tuesday 20 April – Saturday 24 April 2027.

That means Welsh audiences won’t need to trek all the way to London, spend approximately seventeen million quid on a hotel and remortgage the house for a pint near the West End.

Result. 😂

Instead, Live Aid is coming to Cardiff Bay.

Proper job.

The final price will depend on which performance you choose, where you’re sitting and ticket availability.

As you’d expect, the cheapest seats may disappear quickly, particularly as the performance dates get closer.

So if you’re hoping to get inside for around the £20 mark, we’d recommend having a nose at availability sooner rather than waiting until everyone suddenly remembers Queen are involved.

A percentage of ticket sales from the production also goes to the Band Aid Charitable Trust, continuing the charitable connection at the heart of the original Live Aid story.

Music creates communities.
