🩸 What’s Occurring?
Picture this: You’re the new kid in a California beach town, your older brother’s getting seduced by a gang of leather-clad, bloodsucking punks, and your only allies are two comic book nerds who think garlic shampoo is tactical gear.
Welcome to Santa Carla, butt – murder capital of the world.
The Lost Boys is part horror, part comedy, part MTV music video… and all attitude. It’s The Goonies for goths. Top Gun for creatures of the night. Stand By Me if they brought crossbows and holy water.
It’s cool, camp, and absolutely iconic.
🎬 The Plot That Bites (in the best way)
- Michael, Sam and their mum move to Santa Carla.
- Michael gets caught up with a mysterious girl and her biker gang of mulleted dreamboats.
- Turns out the gang aren’t just hot weirdos – they’re vampires.
- Sam recruits local comic shop owners and vampire hunters – the Frog Brothers – who are basically DIY Van Helsings with walkie-talkies and attitude.
- Cue vampire tests, mid-air flying, saxophone-fuelled chaos, and one of the greatest final acts in horror-comedy history.
🦇 What Makes It So Tidy?
- The aesthetic:
Neon. Leather. Sunglasses at night. This is the blueprint for every cool vampire since. (Looking at you, Blade.) - The cast:
- Kiefer Sutherland as David – the most seductive vampire leader this side of a Cradle of Filth tour bus.
- Jason Patric as Michael – broody, confused, hair flowing in the breeze.
- Corey Haim and Corey Feldman – peak 80s energy, all sass and squawk.
- Dianne Wiest as the mum who just wants a quiet life and ends up fighting the undead.
- The humour:
Equal parts goofy and gory.
The vampires are terrifying and fashion icons.
The Frog Brothers are both ridiculous and kind of effective.
And that bath scene with the dog? Comedy gold. 🛁🐕
🎶 The Soundtrack Slays
- “Cry Little Sister” by Gerard McMann – eerie, haunting, totally unforgettable
- INXS, Echo & The Bunnymen, Run-D.M.C., Roger Daltrey – it’s an 80s dream mixtape
- And yes… The Shirtless Sax Guy (aka Tim Cappello)
Oiled, greased, gyrating, and absolutely committing to a solo like he’s summoning the gods of sleaze. “I still believe!” – Honestly, so do we. 🎷🔥
🧄 Garlic-Flavoured Highlights:
- The vampires hanging upside down in that cave like metalhead bats? Incredible.
- Death by stereo. YES MUN.
- That final line: “One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach… all the damn vampires.”
Boom. Credits. Saxophone squeals. You’re done.
😬 Any Bits That Are a Bit… Batty?
- The vampire rules are a bit all over the place (can you drink blood and not turn? What’s with the rice trick?)
- Corey Haim’s wardrobe is more terrifying than the actual vamps
- Occasionally leans so hard into 80s it breaks a neon tube
But honestly… who cares? It slaps harder than a coffin lid at sunrise.
🎤 Final Riff
The Lost Boys is campy, cool, and endlessly rewatchable. It made vampires sexy before Twilight tried to sparkle them to death. It’s loud, weird, and perfectly goth-glam – a gateway drug to horror and the reason we all wished we had a leather trench coat in Year 9.
Whether you’re here for the fangs, the fashion, or the flaming holy water explosions – this one’s for you, creature of the night.
