Well, it’s been one hell of a year for Anti-Flag — the punk band once synonymous with activism, anarchy, and unity — now caught in one of the most disheartening scandals to hit the scene in recent memory.
Chris Barker (aka Chris #2) has spoken up again, issuing a fresh public apology regarding the allegations of sexual assault made against former frontman Justin Sane.
The band disbanded abruptly in July 2023, just hours after a podcast episode dropped in which a woman came forward with detailed claims against Sane. Since then, multiple others have shared similar stories online, painting a grim picture of betrayal within a band once seen as a symbol of integrity.
💔 Chris Barker Speaks Out Again
In his latest statement, Barker said he is “deeply sorry for the harm and pain caused,” adding that he’s still struggling to process the situation:
“When we started Anti-Flag, our goal was to be a force for good. I believed we were living by those values, and I failed to see the full truth. I am heartbroken and angry that anyone experienced harm connected to our band.”
He also addressed the backlash over how the band initially handled the fallout — including their decision to go silent and delete social media accounts — saying:
“Silence was never meant to dismiss or hide. I didn’t have the words. I didn’t want to centre myself, but I also understand that staying quiet caused more pain. I’m sorry for that.”

Many fans have responded with mixed emotions — some appreciate Barker’s honesty, while others feel it’s too little, too late.

“We believed in Anti-Flag because they told us to question everything — including systems of abuse. Now we have to question them, too.”
