From mountain chill to miffed campers – has Steelhouse’s safe vibe shifted?

Steelhouse Festival has long been the kind of place where you could leave your tent open, your chair in the arena, and your hoodie on the barrier while you went to grab a pint – and nobody would touch it. Tidy vibes only. 🏕️🦅💚

But this year, something changed. Security were seen removing people from the arena – and not in the friendly, “Come on mate, time for bed” way. Some fans reported being pulled aside, others escorted off-site entirely. 😳

Now don’t get us wrong – Steelhouse is still one of the safest, kindest, most respectful rock festivals in the UK (if not the top dog). Families feel welcome, teens get their first taste of live rock, and veteran moshers swap beer tokens and stories like we’re all part of the same tribe. But seeing multiple people ejected left a few regulars scratching their heads and asking…

“Is the vibe changing on the mountain?” ⛰️

We’ve had years where your camping chair would survive four days of rain, wind, and cider spillages without ever being nicked. Where the biggest crime was someone belting Bon Jovi at 3AM. 🤘

But this year?

Arena belongings were moved or vanished. Reports of “rowdy behaviour” (a first for this normally chilled crowd). Security seemed more on-edge – or just had a tougher brief?

We’re not here to bash the Steelhouse team – far from it! They’ve built something lush and legendary on top of that mountain. But we do think it’s worth asking:

🧐 Has something shifted in the crowd, or are the new rules just being enforced more strictly?

Some fan quotes we heard in the campsite:

🗣️ “It used to be the kind of place you didn’t lock your car. Now I’m watching my merch like a hawk.”

🗣️ “I’ve never seen someone actually kicked out before – not like that. It was a bit harsh.”

🗣️ “Security were doing their job, but they looked stressed. Something was definitely different this year.”

What Could Be Causing It?

More people? It’s definitely growing, with bigger crowds year-on-year. That means more variables. Post-COVID crowd shift? Some festivals have noticed younger, rowdier punters attending since lockdown lifted. Crackdown on drink & drugs? That’s often a reason behind increased security action.

But still – Steelhouse has always been about trust, community, and rock ‘n’ roll respect. And we hope this isn’t a sign of that slipping. If someone was out of line, sure, fair enough – no one wants aggro when they’re trying to enjoy a bit of Those Damn Crows or Black Stone Cherry.

But if this is a sign of overzealous security or changing crowd behaviour, it might be time for a tidy chat between the organisers and the fans. Because we all want to keep that magical mountain feeling alive. 🏴🔥

Final Thoughts

Steelhouse, we love you. But this year felt different. Not bad. Just… less relaxed. And if we can’t trust our fold-up chair and our leftover chips to be there when we get back from the bar, what are we even doing? 😅

Let’s keep this festival the way it’s always been:

Safe. Friendly. Rockin’. And full of sound people who look after each other. 🖤
