Alright you muddy legends – you’ve headbanged, crowd-surfed, sung your hearts out and eaten more pot noodles than medically advisable. Now it’s time for your encore of honour

🚫 Don’t Be That Person:

Every year, mountains of rubbish and hundreds of tents get left behind after festivals across the UK – and Steelhouse is better than that.

Leaving your tent, cans, and trash behind doesn’t make you punk… it makes you a prat.

And it puts the future of OUR festival at risk.

🎒 What You Should Do Instead:

🏕️ 1. Pack Your Tent – Yes, Even the Broken One

  • Even if it’s snapped, soaked or smells like a dragon’s armpit – take it with you.

  • You can often repair, recycle, or donate it later.

  • Abandoned tents often end up in landfill – not repurposed, reused, or taken by others.

🗑️ 2. Bring Bin Bags – Plural!

  • Pack a few large black sacks BEFORE the festival.

  • Use one for rubbish, one for recycling, and one for soggy socks of doom.

  • If you love a clean tent during the fest, leave one outside for daily dumps – keep your site tidy throughout.

♻️ 3. Recycle Like a Champ

  • Steelhouse often provides bins and recycling points – use them!

  • Cans, bottles, cardboard food trays – all that stuff adds up.

  • Flatten boxes and stash recyclable stuff until you find the right bin.

🪑 4. Don’t Abandon Furniture

  • Chairs, gazebos, airbeds, cool boxes… If you brought it, take it.

  • Think of the crew who stay behind for days cleaning up. Don’t make their job hell.

🧭 5. Do a Final Sweep

  • Before you leave, gather your mates and do one last walk-around.

  • You’ll be surprised what you find – chargers, sunglasses, even wallets.

  • Clean up not just your pitch, but your neighbour’s if they’ve ghosted early.

🌍 Why It Matters:

  • Environmental impact: Plastic pegs, single-use tents, and micro-litter poison the land and waterways.

  • Local goodwill: We’re in someone’s backyard – let’s be sound, not selfish.

  • Festival future: The cleaner we leave it, the more welcome we are to return.

  • Your rep: Leave behind a mess and you’re just another punter. Leave it spotless and you’re a festival hero.

🧡 Community Care:

If you’re really done with your gear but it’s in decent nick:

  • Look for donation bins or collection points near exits.

  • If none exist, Facebook groups or charities might accept camping gear.

  • Some festivals even partner with local homeless shelters or scouts – check before you go!

🐉 The Steelhouse Way:

This isn’t some soulless car park rave. This is the mountain-top mecca of riffs, respect, and community. When we leave, we leave it beautiful.

Tidy tent. Tidy field. Tidy heart.

🎤 Final Words from the Pit:

“Treat the mountain like your mam’s living room – leave it cleaner than when you arrived or don’t come at all!”
– Every veteran Steelhouser, probably.
