A Download Festival Quest for the Ages
By The Riff Report 🏆🖤🤘
Picture this: It’s Day 3 of Download Festival 2025. You’re sunburnt, sleep-deprived, slightly hungover (or still drunk?), and stumbling through the arena like a gremlin with a Greggs addiction. You check your shorts pocket for your phone… and instead you pull out THIS:
🏆 “CONGRATULATIONS! YOU FOUND PETE!” 🏆
C’MON BUTT… WHO THE HELL IS PETE!? 😳🤣
🕵️♂️ THE LEGEND OF PETE BEGINS…
Turns out, while you were busy moshing to Architects and queueing 45 minutes for a £9 cider, a secret mission was unfolding all around you…
Operation: FIND PETE.
No signs. No announcements. No app clues. Just a rogue army of Pete stickers circulating the field like Pokémon cards for metalheads. And if you were lucky enough (or daft enough) to check your muddy back pocket on Monday morning — boom — Pete appeared like a hungover messiah.
Imagine our surprise when we reached in thinking it was our vape and instead pulled out THIS trophy-holding bloke who looks like he’s just won “Best Dad in a Village Pub Quiz.” 🍻😂
🏆 WHO IS PETE?
No one knows. And we’re not sure we want to.
Some say he’s the real Download mascot now. Others reckon he’s just some geezer from HR who wandered into the press tent once and never left. One lad swore he saw Pete crowd-surfing during Corey Taylor’s set. Another claimed Pete sold him a bootleg Gojira tee then disappeared into the loos like a bearded phantom.
We at The Riff Report think Pete might be:
- A lost Gallagher brother
- A spiritual guide to hungover mosh gremlins
- The actual winner of Download’s secret Hunger Games
- OR… just some absolute LEGEND with access to a laminator
🧠 WHAT DO YOU WIN?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Except bragging rights, eternal street cred, and a strange sense of pride that you, dear rocker, have joined the elite few who can now say:
“I found Pete.”
Put that on your LinkedIn. Or at least your bum pocket.
📣 THE PETE PRAYER
Repeat after us, friends:
“In mud and sweat, we seek thee.
Through riffs and roars, we find thee.
Trophy in hand, beard aglow…
Oh mighty Pete, we salute you so.”
🎤 SHOUTOUT TO WHOEVER DID THIS:
To the unsung hero who printed, cut, and sneakily planted these across Donington like a weird Easter Egg hunt for metalheads — we bow to you. You are chaos. You are art. You are peak festival goblin energy.
Tidy work, mun. 👏
📸 HAVE YOU FOUND PETE?
Drop us a DM or tag us with your Pete pics and Pete sightings. Let’s create the Download Hall of Fame he deserves. Bonus points if he’s next to a Portaloo, a bin fire, or mid-pint-chug.

Michael is the founder, editor, and chief riff wrangler behind The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock and metal publication built by fans, for fans. With a lifelong passion for loud guitars, unforgettable live shows, and the incredible community that surrounds rock and metal, he created The Riff Report to celebrate everything that makes the scene special—from legendary headline acts and grassroots venues to rising bands that deserve to be heard.
A familiar face at festivals across the UK, Michael spends much of the year covering events including Download Festival, Bloodstock Open Air, Steelhouse Festival, Firevolt, Plumpton Revival, and many more. Whether he’s battling the Welsh weather on a mountainside, surviving a weekend in a muddy campsite, or squeezed against the front barrier with thousands of fellow fans, he’s always searching for the next great story to share.
As editor of The Riff Report, Michael writes festival guides, breaking news, album reviews, gig reviews, interviews, opinion pieces, nostalgia features, and behind-the-scenes stories from across the rock and metal world. His writing combines honest opinions, humour, and a genuine love for live music, bringing readers closer to the bands, festivals, venues, and people that keep the scene alive.
Michael is particularly passionate about supporting independent artists, local venues, charities, and the wider UK rock and metal community. He believes every band deserves a chance to be discovered and every festival has a story worth telling. Through The Riff Report, he aims to shine a spotlight on both the biggest names in rock and the future stars waiting to break through.
When he’s not writing or interviewing artists, you’ll probably find him exploring festival campsites, photographing live shows, chatting with fellow fans over a pint, or planning the next road trip in search of more riffs, bigger crowds, and unforgettable moments.
Above all, Michael believes rock and metal are about more than music—they’re about community, friendship, and creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s exactly what The Riff Report exists to celebrate.
Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. Always chasing the next great riff. 🤘
