Full Review by The Riff Report Blog – July 5, 2025
Location: Villa Park, Birmingham
Stage: Back To The Beginning Main Stage
Band: LAMB OF GOD (USA)
Time: Somewhere between the seventh circle of hell and peak leg-day trauma 💀
⚔️ “WALK WITH ME IN HELL!” – LAMB OF GOD BRING PURE DESTRUCTION TO BRUM 🩸
If there was a Richter scale under Villa Park, it would’ve snapped in half by the end of Lamb of God’s set. The Virginian groove metal gods didn’t just play — they launched an all-out sonic assault that left no face un-melted and no limb un-bruised.
Randy Blythe, barefoot and battle-ready, roared like a prophet of chaos. The guitars sliced the air like shrapnel. The drums? Think machine-gun meets stampede. If Birmingham needed exorcising, Lamb of God got the job done. With fire.
💣 SETLIST OF UNHOLY BANGERS
- Memento Mori
- Walk With Me in Hell 😈
- Ruin
- Resurrection Man
- 512
- Ditch
- Contractor (security’s panic mode: engaged)
- Omerta
- Set to Fail
- Laid to Rest (mass carnage)
- Vigil
- Redneck (this one… this one caused the Earth to move)
- Black Label (finale mosh pit = apocalypse)
🎤 RANDY BLYTHE: THE HIGH PRIEST OF MAYHEM
Randy isn’t just a frontman. He’s a force of f**ing nature*. Drenched in sweat before the first chorus, barefoot and bounding across the stage like a punk rock gazelle, he commanded that crowd like a fire-and-brimstone preacher with a distortion pedal.
At one point, he screamed “This is Birmingham – this is METAL GROUND ZERO!” and every neck in the stadium snapped into a windmill.
🎸 GUITARS THAT COULD LEVEL A VILLAGE
Mark Morton and Willie Adler delivered riffs that could shear concrete. From the grinding doom of “Ruin” to the punishing grooves of “Ditch,” they laid waste to everything in sight.
Every solo was a call to arms. Every breakdown was a declaration of war. Somewhere in the crowd, a dad in an Iron Maiden shirt literally shouted, “THIS IS THE SOUND OF THE APOCALYPSE!” while flinging a sausage roll into the air like a confetti cannon.
🥁 ART CRUZ = DESTRUCTION WITH HI-HATS
Art Cruz isn’t just holding it down – he’s lifting it up and slamming it into the floor. His drumming on “512” and “Laid to Rest” had people bouncing like their bones had springs. The double bass pedal work? Filthy. Like, “make-you-go-hmph!” filthy. 👣💥
🌀 CROWD SCENES: PURE MOSH MADNESS
This wasn’t a pit. This was a battlefield. Blood? Sweat? Maybe some actual tears. “Contractor” sparked a pit so violent someone lost a boot, a belt, and possibly their mortgage paperwork. 🤕
During “Redneck,” a lad in a traffic cone hat somehow ended up crowd-surfing on a door. We’re not making this up. Only in Brum, mun.
🖤 BEST MOMENT: “VIGIL” WITH EVERYONE SCREAMING
That spoken intro – “Our father, thy will be done…” – echoed around Villa Park like a sermon from hell. Then the drop. Absolute silence one second, complete obliteration the next.
You could feel it in your chest, in your teeth, in your soul. It was primal. It was perfect. Tidy.
🧷 THE FASHION: CAMO SHORTS, FACE TATTOOS, AND WAR PAINT
This crowd was ready for violence – stylish violence. Bandanas, vests, torn-up Lamb of God shirts from 2005, and more ink than a library printer queue. One guy had “OMERTA” written across his chest in fake blood. Respect.
Another wore a vest that simply said “Riff Worshipper.” Same, mate. Same.
🧨 FINAL VERDICT: LAMB OF GOD – STILL KINGS OF LIVE METAL
Some bands play. Others dominate. Lamb of God do both, then ask if you want another round – and make sure your spine agrees.
They made Villa Park their stomping ground, and every riff was a hammer blow. Every scream was a purge. Every fan walked away changed. Or limping. Or both.
Score: 10/10 Burnt Offerings 🔥🩸
Mood: Uplifted, destroyed, reborn through groove metal.
Diolch, Lamb of God – we’ll never walk the same again. Literally. We’re booking physio.
