Alright, I’ve gotta say it before I burst: if you tuned into the Guns N’ Roses live stream hoping for a night of raw, rebellious rock ‘n’ roll, chances are you ended up wondering if your gran had left the telly on the wrong channel again. 🤨
Because honest to Slash, all I could hear was this guy 👇
You know it’s bad when Axl Rose hits a note and your dog starts scratching at the door like there’s a thunderstorm coming. ⚡🐶
🎤 “Welcome to the JunGAAAAHHHHHHHHHH– oof, me back…”
Let’s not pretend it’s 1992 anymore. Axl waddled out like he was heading to bingo, not Glastonbury. Hair dyed darker than the abyss, voice cracking like a 13-year-old going through puberty for the second time – it was more “Sweet Grandchild o’ Mine” than anything remotely dangerous.
The once-mighty Gunners sounded like they were stuck in molasses, with guitar solos dragged out like the last few awkward minutes of a work Zoom call. Slash, bless him, still looked cool — but even he seemed to be thinking “I could be at home watering my cacti right now.”
🪦 Back to the Beginning? Nah butt, Back to Bed
This whole “Back to the Beginning” set was hyped up as if we were gonna see the second coming of rock. What we got felt more like an awkward karaoke night at a Wetherspoons in Bridgend. And I like Wetherspoons in Bridgend.
Every time Axl spoke between songs it sounded like Herbert from Family Guy had been given a mic and a box of Werther’s Originals. I half expected him to offer me a popsicle and ask if I’d mowed his lawn. 😬
🕺 Duff? More Like Duffed It.
Duff McKagan was there too – looking like a man who’d tried to quietly quit years ago but got dragged back in like it’s some kind of rock n’ roll Saw trap. “You wanna leave? First you must play ‘November Rain’… SLOWER… THAN… EVER…”
The pacing was all over the shop. Songs started, stopped, wobbled, then limped to an unceremonious end. At one point during “Estranged,” I swear I aged five years.
📺 The Stream of Screams (and Not the Good Kind)
Watching the livestream from the comfort of your sofa should be a joy. But it felt like a form of punishment for crimes I didn’t commit.
Every time I thought it couldn’t get worse… BAM! Another off-key yowl, another CGI lightning bolt behind the band trying to distract from the absolute aural car crash occurring on stage. Honestly, I’ve heard tighter performances from a school recorder ensemble.
🧓 FINAL VERDICT: WELCOME TO THE NAPPING ZONE
Look, we love GNR. We respect the legacy. We’ve screamed along to “Paradise City” like gremlins in the pit. But this wasn’t a triumphant return to form. This was a sleepy Sunday shuffle through the motions.
All I’m saying is if you closed your eyes during the performance… and imagined this guy singing 👴👇
…it made way more sense. 😅
🔥 RATING: 2 out of 10 – One point for Slash, one point for nostalgia, and the rest… lost in a sea of groans, croaks, and soft slippers.
C’mon butt, rock ain’t supposed to feel this… beige.

🎸 BACK TO THE BEGINNING? MORE LIKE BACK TO THE BLOODY CARE HOME – GUNS N’ ROSES’ STREAMING SHOCKER 🧓🎤
Oi oi, fellow rock survivors…
If you were brave enough to fire up the Guns N’ Roses live stream tonight thinking you were about to witness a face-melting throwback to the glory days… then I regret to inform you: you’ve just been serenaded by Herbert from Family Guy. 💀👇
I swear, halfway through Welcome to the Jungle, I checked I hadn’t accidentally sat on the remote and switched over to ITV4’s “Old Crooners and Where Are They Now?”
🎤 “You’re in the jungllll… oooof me sciatica!”
Let’s get straight to the wobbly point, shall we?
Axl Rose came hobbling out like he was late for a flu jab appointment at Boots. Gone was the dangerous swagger, the rock ‘n’ roll strut — instead, we got a man who looked like he’d lost a fight with a memory foam mattress.
Vocals? More like vocal-ish. Imagine your grandad trying to belt out karaoke at a family BBQ while chasing the dog with his slipper. That was the vibe.
You ever heard someone try to yodel while stepping on LEGO barefoot? Now you have.
🎸 SLASH STILL SLAPS (KIND OF)
To be fair, Slash turned up looking like the Grim Reaper’s cooler cousin. Top hat? Still intact. Sunglasses? Never saw his eyes once. Fingers? Still faster than the queue at Greggs when they drop fresh sausage rolls.
But even Slash, guitar hero that he is, looked like he’d rather be at home watching Antiques Roadshow with a nice cuppa and a cat on his lap. 🛋️
He gave it a go, bless him. But you can only solo your way out of disaster for so long before the whole thing starts to smell like reheated ’90s.
🛏️ “BACK TO THE BEGINNING” MY ARSE – MORE LIKE BACK TO BED
This was meant to be the big moment. “Back to the Beginning” – a chance to reclaim the throne, show the young guns how it’s done.
Instead, we got a retirement home reunion sponsored by Steradent and supported by Deep Heat. One of the pyrotechnics went off and I genuinely thought Axl was going to phone his chiropractor mid-song.
Duff looked good though. Like a bloke who’s been accidentally sober since 2003 and now lives on smoothies, yoga, and regret.
👴 IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES… YOU HEAR HERBERT
There’s no way round it: the performance sounded like Family Guy’s Herbert had taken over lead vocals.
I was expecting him to pause mid-chorus and say:
“Mmmm… you boys wanna hear some Paradise City? I got some popsicles in the cellar…” 😳🍭
The resemblance? Uncanny.
The vocals? Even more uncanny.
My face? Stuck somewhere between horror and helpless laughter.
📺 STREAMING NIGHTMARE – WHO LET THIS HAPPEN?
Watching the stream felt like one of those weird fever dreams where your favourite band’s playing… but they’ve all aged 40 years overnight, are half-asleep, and the sound mix was done by a goat.
One poor soul in the chat typed:
“Is this lag… or are they just slow now?”
Mate… that wasn’t lag. That was just the pace we’re rockin’ at these days. 🐢
Even the camera crew gave up. Half the set was just shots of confused crowd members Googling “When did Guns N’ Roses turn into a tribute act for themselves?”
🪦 FINAL THOUGHTS – WELCOME TO THE NAPPING ZONE
Look, we all get old. It’s part of the deal. But if your band sounds like they’re broadcasting from inside a mobility scooter, maybe it’s time to… I dunno… scale it back a bit?
Or maybe team up with Cliff Richard for a summer of gentle tea-fuelled duets across the National Trust circuit.
But rock ‘n’ roll? This wasn’t it.
It was limp, it was weird, and it definitely made us question some life choices.
🤘 THE RIFF REPORT RATING: 2 out of 10
- 1 point for Slash, because he’s still cool even if he’s probably got back problems.
- 1 point for nostalgia, because we wanted to believe.
Everything else?
Lost in the jungle, along with Axl’s voice, timing, and any sense of urgency.
💬 BONUS COMMENTS FROM VIEWERS (PROBABLY)
- “I thought this was a parody… turns out it was just Axl.”
- “Sounded like someone reversing a badger into a blender.”
- “I’ve seen more energy at a funeral for a lightbulb.”
- “Can I have those 2 hours of my life refunded in Nurofen?”
So next time you think, “Ooo let’s watch Guns N’ Roses on the telly!” — just whack on Family Guy instead and pretend Herbert’s having a go at Sweet Child O’ Mine.
Same result. Less painful.
Rant over. Pint time. 🍻
